Mariah Carey is set to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Olympic Games, scheduled for February 6 at San Siro Stadium in Italy.
The 56-year-old singer will take the stage before a global audience as part of the ceremony, which is expected to last approximately two and a half hours. Event organizers confirmed that Carey has agreed to perform entirely in Italian to honor the host country’s culture.
Marco Balich, the creative director of the Olympic opening ceremony, said the decision reflects the artistic direction of the event. Speaking at a press conference, Balich noted that invited performers are expected to contribute to the ceremony rather than promote personal music projects.
Balich also praised Carey for embracing the challenge, stating that she enthusiastically accepted the request despite primarily performing in English throughout her career. While the exact song choice has not been revealed, he said it would be a well-known Italian piece likely to resonate emotionally with local audiences.
Carey’s performance will officially open the 2026 Olympic Games and set the tone for the international sporting event.
