Former President John Dramani Mahama, together with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has donated GH₵50,000 to the family of the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba.
The contribution was presented during the final funeral rites held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, December 13. The ceremony drew thousands of mourners who gathered early to pay their respects to the celebrated musician.
Fans sang and danced to Daddy Lumba’s well-known songs, blending mourning with celebration as they honoured his legacy. Security was reinforced at the venue to manage the large crowd and ensure public safety.
Several prominent figures attended the funeral, including NDC National Chairman Asiedu Nketiah, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, and other party officials. Musician Nana Acheampong also performed live with a band in tribute to the late artist.
The funeral followed a ruling by the Accra High Court that cleared the way for the burial after Daddy Lumba’s maternal family failed to meet the GH₵2 million requirement to sustain an injunction against the release of his body. Legal observers described the decision as paving the way for national unity and closure.
Daddy Lumba died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
