Joseph Momodu is taking his life in a completely new direction.

The Nollywood actor has stepped away from the screen after joining the United States Army, marking a major career shift from entertainment to military service.

According to Joseph Momodu’s Instagram post, the actor said the decision was the fulfilment of a dream he had carried for years. He announced the news over the weekend after completing his military training in the United States.

Momodu, who relocated to the US several months ago, said his enlistment also carries deep personal meaning. He described it as a way of honouring his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force before his death 20 years ago.

The actor revealed that on April 12, 2026, he officially continued what he sees as his father’s legacy, moving from the world of Nollywood into the discipline and structure of the US Army.

He also admitted that the journey was not easy. Momodu said there were moments when he doubted himself and questioned the decision, but he stayed focused until the end of training.

He is now serving as Specialist J.A. Momodu with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

For many Nollywood fans, the move comes as a surprise. Momodu built a recognizable name in the Nigerian film industry before choosing a very different path abroad.

His decision also reflects a wider pattern among some Nigerian entertainers who have relocated overseas and taken on new careers outside showbiz. Actors such as Mayowa Dosu and Grace-Charis Bassey have also previously announced moves into the US military after leaving Nigeria.

Momodu’s transition is more than just a career change. It is a personal story about legacy, discipline and starting over, showing how life after Nollywood can sometimes lead far beyond the film set.
