In a shocking military operation dubbed “Operation Rising Lion”, Israel launched a massive surprise attack on Iran early Friday morning, striking the capital, Tehran, and key nuclear facilities across the country.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the operation was aimed at “striking the heart of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.” He said the strikes may last several days and called Iran a threat to Israel’s existence.

In response, Iran fired over 100 drones toward Israeli territory, as confirmed by the Israeli army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin. He added that Israel is now on high alert, preparing for further escalation.

One of the most shocking outcomes of the Israeli strikes was the death of Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami, the powerful commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iranian state TV confirmed the news, calling him the most senior military figure killed since the Iran-Iraq war.

The enemy thinks it can treat us like unarmed Palestinians,” Salami said a day earlier. “But we know real war.”

🎯 Key Targets Hit

  • Iran’s nuclear research facilities

  • IRGC headquarters in Tehran

  • Residential areas (reports confirm civilian casualties, including children)

  • Scientists tied to Iran’s nuclear program

  • Senior Iranian military commanders

Among those killed:

  • Fereydoon Abbasi, former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization

  • Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, president of Islamic Azad University

  • Maj Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, commander of Iran’s ground forces

Iran Responds: “Disaster Will Fall on Israel”

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that Israel has opened the door to its own downfall, saying:

They’ve invited a great disaster upon themselves. There will be consequences.”

Saudi Arabia condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them a “blatant violation of international law” and urged the global community to intervene immediately.

Trump Reacts: “Iran Must Not Get Nuclear Weapons”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News that America had prior knowledge of the operation. He added:

If Iran retaliates, we will defend Israel. Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon.”

Trump also confirmed that the U.S. played no active role in the strike but hinted at future support.

Flights Suspended, Airspaces Closed

Tehran airport shut down all flights. Several other Middle East airspaces, including Iraq and Qatar, are seeing mass cancellations.

What Happens Next?

The region braces for a potential wider war, with armed groups in Iraq vowing to enter the conflict if Iran is attacked further. Meanwhile, U.S.-Iran nuclear talks scheduled in Oman this Sunday are now in doubt.

Experts say this is Iran’s biggest military strike suffered on its soil since the 1980s war with Iraq.
