An eyewitness has revealed that the gunmen who killed Nigerian singer Sabi first asked to see the manager before opening fire on the artist at his Lagos property.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night at the singer’s motel located in the Okun-Afon area of Badagry, Lagos State. According to the witness, who worked as a bar attendant at the scene, the attackers had earlier engaged in a disagreement before demanding to speak with the person in charge.

Sabi, who owned the establishment, stepped forward in response to the request, unaware of the imminent danger. Moments later, the assailants allegedly shot him at close range, leaving him fatally wounded. The witness said he fled the scene for safety as the shooting unfolded.

Police operatives were said to have responded after hearing gunshots, leading to the arrest of one suspect, while three others escaped. Authorities reportedly recovered a locally made pistol from the suspect taken into custody.

The case was initially handled by police in Badagry before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yaba for further investigation.

Sources suggested the attack may have been linked to a case of mistaken identity involving rival cult groups, although officials have not confirmed this claim.

Sabi, known for his track “Show Your Style,” was killed at his own establishment, with reports indicating that the attackers fled with his mobile phone. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
