Award-winning grime artist Ghetts has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a 20-year-old student in east London


The incident occurred on October 18, 2025, when the rapper’s BMW M5 struck Yubin Tamang on Redbridge Lane East in Ilford


. Tamang died in hospital two days later from serious injurie


Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, pleaded guilty in court Rapper Ghetts jailed for 12 yea…. Prosecutors told the court he had been driving at 67mph in a 30mph zone — more than double the speed limit — and was one-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit

.

The court also heard that Clarke-Samuel drove approximately eight miles without contacting emergency services following the collision .


Prosecutors described a “quite appalling litany of incidents” leading up to the crash, including running six red lights, mounting curbs, and colliding with a Mercedes and a motorcyclist .


During the sentencing hearing, Tamang’s mother broke down in court as she described losing her only child .


…. In a statement read to the court, she said her son had moved to the UK to pursue higher education before his life was cut short .


. A family representative added that while they were relieved by the sentence, they could never forgive the rapper .
