Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji is set to make her acting comeback in BBC Studios’ upcoming thriller series Wahala, nearly eight years after her last on-screen appearance.
Nnaji, who last appeared in the 2018 film Lionheart, has been cast in the six-part television adaptation of Wahala, a novel written by Nikki May and adapted for television by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko. The series is being produced by BBC Studios through its Firebird Pictures division.
According to Tribune Online, the series will air on BBC One and also stream on BBC iPlayer.
The production features a cast lineup that includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo and Susan Wokoma. The thriller follows the lives of four Nigerian-British women living in London as long-hidden secrets and tensions begin to surface.
Speaking about her return to acting, Nnaji said she was excited to be part of the project.
“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.
Executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff also praised the cast and expressed optimism about the upcoming series.
“We are so proud to be announcing our incredible cast for Wahala and can’t wait to see them breathe life into these wonderful characters,” she stated.
