Nigerian filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has achieved a major milestone at the African box office, as her latest film, Behind the Scenes, has officially crossed the ₦2 billion mark in cinema revenue.

According to figures released by FilmOne, one of Nigeria’s leading film distribution companies, the movie generated ₦2,103,039,706 in ticket sales within just one month of its theatrical release. The achievement makes Behind the Scenes the first Nollywood—and African—film to surpass ₦2 billion in cinema earnings.

FilmOne disclosed the development in a post on X, noting that the record-breaking performance further cements Akindele’s status as Africa’s most commercially successful filmmaker. The distributor also highlighted her distinction as the highest-grossing producer, writer, and director in West Africa’s cinematic history.

In addition, Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years, underscoring her sustained commercial dominance in the region’s film industry.

Reacting to the achievement, Akindele shared a celebratory video message on her Instagram page, expressing gratitude to God and her fans for their continued support. She described the milestone as a significant moment for the film and the broader Nollywood industry, noting that the box office figures are still climbing.

Behind the Scenes continues to screen in cinemas across Nigeria and other markets, with industry observers closely watching whether it will extend its record-setting run.
