Falz Joins Lagos Protest Over Rising Kidnappings in Nigeria

Falz is once again using his voice beyond music.

The Nigerian rapper and activist joined protesters in Lagos on Thursday, calling on authorities to take urgent action against the growing wave of kidnappings and killings affecting communities across the country.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, the artist, whose real name is Folarin Falana, described the country's security crisis as a national emergency, saying many Nigerians now wake up daily to fresh reports of abductions and violent attacks.

Speaking to journalists during the demonstration, Falz pointed to several states that have recently faced security challenges, including Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Plateau and Oyo. He said the frequency of kidnappings has created a climate of fear for ordinary citizens.

The rapper also highlighted recent incidents in Oyo State, including the abduction of schoolchildren who are reportedly yet to reunite with their families. He contrasted that case with the kidnapping of a relative of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and her twin children, who regained their freedom within days.

For Falz, the issue goes beyond individual cases. His message focused on what he sees as unequal attention given to victims depending on their social or political connections.

The award-winning artist argued that every Nigerian deserves the same level of protection, regardless of status, and urged authorities to treat all lives with equal importance.

His remarks echoed concerns that have become increasingly common across Nigeria, where insecurity has remained a major public issue. The protest's central demand was straightforward: an end to kidnappings, killings and attacks on schools.

Falz also addressed the country's political mood ahead of future elections. While avoiding predictions about electoral outcomes, he said public frustration with leadership has become difficult to ignore.

The rapper suggested that many citizens are unhappy with how national affairs have been managed and questioned whether those in power have shown enough commitment to addressing key challenges.

Despite his criticism, Falz maintained his long-standing support for democratic participation. He encouraged Nigerians to make their voices heard through the ballot box, stressing the importance of civic engagement as the country moves toward another election cycle.

For many Nigerians, Falz's appearance at the protest reinforced a role he has played for years—one of the country's most visible artist-activists, willing to step into public debates when national issues extend far beyond the entertainment industry.
