Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has revealed that her father once locked her in a room for six months after she refused to accept an office job he arranged for her.

The actress shared the experience during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where she spoke about the challenges she faced growing up, including opposition from her father regarding her education and career aspirations.

According to Anunobi, the situation escalated when she declined to take the job her father had secured for her. In response, he reportedly confined her to her room and repeatedly pushed employment forms under the door, expecting her to complete them.

For six months, my father locked me in my room,” she said, adding that her mother would bring her food while urging her to comply with the request to fill out the job forms.

Anunobi said her father strongly believed that educating a girl child was unnecessary because women would eventually marry and take their husband’s name, leaving little legacy for their family.

She explained that the resistance to her education began during her secondary school years, when her father openly expressed reluctance to sponsor her schooling. As a result, she turned to modelling as a way to support herself financially.

The actress said modelling helped sustain her education and later opened the door to opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Anunobi also revealed that her father only began paying her school fees after she gained admission to university, by which time she had already struggled for years to fund her education independently.

Despite the difficulties, she said the experience shaped her determination to pursue her ambitions and build a successful career in acting and ministry.
