Efya a Ghanaian singer-songwriter

Efya made vocal control feel like a form of storytelling in Ghanaian pop: intimate enough for “Best in Me,” flexible enough for Sarkodie collaborations and commanding enough for major live stages. Born Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor, the Kumasi-born, Accra-raised singer built a solo identity across Afro-soul, R&B, highlife and jazz.
Her official profiles are Instagram @efya_nokturnal and X @EFYA_Nokturnal. Her verified Spotify artist page displayed 213,807 monthly listeners in August 2026. The live Efya songs page on XTRAfrica currently features her work with Beeztrap KOTM.
Who is Efya? Efya is Ghanaian singer-songwriter Jane Awindor, a four-time consecutive Ghana Music Awards winner for Best Female Vocal Performance. After emerging from Stars of the Future and the Irene and Jane duo, she developed a solo catalogue led by T.I.N.T, Janesis, “Best in Me” and “Jorley.”
Vocal craft and the voice at the centre
Efya’s instrument is not simply a large voice. It is the way she moves between a restrained conversational line, layered harmony and a live-performance climax without losing the song’s emotional centre. Spotify’s current artist biography places Afro-soul, R&B and highlife inside her sound; her own earlier description was “Afro Neo-soul, Jazz,” but she preferred the broader idea of timeless music.
That range explains why her catalogue works in several settings. “Best in Me” is a slow-burning declaration; “Little Things” makes understatement memorable; “Jorley” pairs her with Sarkodie’s rap catalogue; and Mr Eazi’s “Skin Tight” lets her turn a guest appearance into the song’s emotional answer. Apple Music continues to list “Skin Tight,” “Saara,” “Jorley” and “Best in Me” among her leading songs.
She told a direct Modern Ghana interview that writing usually begins with people, surroundings and feelings.
“I make mood music, every song tells a story.”
Formative life between Kumasi, Accra and television
Efya was born in Kumasi on 10 April 1987. Apple Music confirms the date; calculated against 24 August 2026, she is 39 years old. In her 2014 interview, she said she grew up in Accra, attended Garrison school and Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School, then studied at the University of Ghana. She also identified two brothers and a sister.
