DRC Reports 32 New Ebola Recoveries as Outbreak Continues

The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported 32 new Ebola recoveries, offering a positive development in an outbreak that continues to affect several health zones across eastern provinces. According to the latest epidemiological report published on June 12 and reported by local media, health authorities are still monitoring hundreds of active cases as response efforts continue.

The outbreak has spread across 19 health zones in Ituri Province, including Bunia, Mambasa, Komanda, Mongbwalu, Aru, Angumu, and several others. In North Kivu especially ituri and surounding areas, nine health zones are affected, among them Beni, Butembo, Goma, Katwa, Kalunguta, and Oicha. One health zone in South Kivu has also reported cases, bringing the total number of affected provinces to three.

Health officials report that since the beginning of the epidemic, 689 confirmed Ebola cases have been recorded. The outbreak has resulted in 139 confirmed deaths, corresponding to an overall case fatality rate of 20.2%.

According to the World Health Organization's Ebola fact sheets, rapid isolation, treatment, and contact tracing remain critical tools in reducing mortality and limiting transmission during outbreaks.

While new infections continue to be monitored, the latest report notes that 32 patients have now been declared recovered. Recovery figures are closely watched because they reflect the effectiveness of treatment and surveillance measures being implemented by health authorities and their international partners.

At present, 315 patients remain in isolation or hospitalization facilities. Treatment centers are operating at an occupancy rate of nearly 70%, with authorities indicating that additional capacity is being mobilized to accommodate any increase in patient numbers while maintaining safe care standards.

The Ebola response remains concentrated in eastern DRC, a region that has experienced multiple outbreaks over the past decade. Public health officials continue to emphasize surveillance, case management, and community engagement as key elements of the containment strategy.
