Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has identified a lack of respect for artistes as the most damaging mistake made by emerging record label owners.

The music executive shared the insight on Friday in response to a question from an X user who asked him to highlight the biggest error new labels in Nigeria often make.

Don Jazzy stated that artistes signed to any label must be treated with respect from the onset, especially if the intention is to build long-term success.

“If you know you are aiming at building a huge superstar, start from day one to accord them that respect,” he wrote.

He added that many new label bosses admire his career but tend to emulate the wrong aspects of his public persona. According to him, he allows his artistes to take the spotlight most of the time.

“90% of the time around my artists I let them be the superstars that they are. It’s only 10% of the time that I really need to be Supremos,” he said.
