A Canada-based Nigerian doctor has advised singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, to undergo a brain scan following his recent celebrity boxing defeat in Lagos.

The recommendation follows Portable’s loss to skit maker Carter Efe in a widely publicised exhibition match that drew attention across social media and the entertainment scene.

Dr Arinze Onwumelu, also known as Dr Zo, said the singer should undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to assess potential internal head injuries sustained during the bout.

He noted that although the fight was organised for entertainment, the level of physical contact observed raised medical concerns. According to him, repeated blows to the head could lead to serious complications, including subdural hematoma, a potentially life-threatening condition.

Onwumelu urged those close to the singer to ensure he receives immediate medical evaluation, stressing that head injuries should not be ignored after such events.

He also called on organisers of celebrity boxing matches to strengthen safety measures, including the use of protective headgear, to minimise the risk of injuries.

The Lagos bout has since sparked renewed debate over safety standards in celebrity exhibition fights, as such events continue to grow in popularity.
