A Kigali court has postponed the hearing on the provisional detention of DJ Toxxyk after his defense team said it did not have sufficient time to prepare.
The hearing, scheduled for January 7, 2026, was meant to determine whether the accused would remain in custody or be released on provisional bail. DJ Toxxyk informed the court that he was not ready to proceed, citing limited time to review the case file.
His lawyers supported the request, explaining that the file was submitted shortly before the hearing date, leaving them without adequate time to examine the charges and supporting documents.
The prosecution did not oppose the postponement but asked the court to ensure the defense would be fully prepared for the next hearing and avoid further delays.
The presiding judge ruled that the hearing be postponed to January 14, 2026.
DJ Toxxyk is facing four allegations, including illegal drug use, driving without a valid license, driving under the influence of alcohol, and involuntary manslaughter. Penalties for these offenses vary under the law and may include fines, imprisonment, or alternative sentences depending on the court’s ruling.
The case is expected to resume next week.
