Rwandan police have confirmed the arrest of local disc jockey DJ Toxxyk following a road accident that resulted in the death of a police officer who was on duty.

According to the Rwanda National Police, the incident occurred in the early hours of December 20, 2025, when the DJ’s vehicle struck an officer stationed along a road in Kigali. After the collision, the driver left the scene but was later tracked down and apprehended in Karongi District.

Police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga said the suspect was arrested on Saturday afternoon after initially evading authorities. He is currently being held at Remera Police Station as investigations continue.

Preliminary information from witnesses indicates that the vehicle was traveling at high speed while descending from the Kiyovu area along the Payage road. The officer was reportedly standing on the opposite side of the roadway when the car crossed lanes and struck him. The impact dragged the officer for approximately 30 meters, according to accounts shared with investigators.

Authorities noted that the crash may have occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle, possibly while attempting to avoid road barriers linked to ongoing construction works in the area.

Police have also stated that tests are underway to determine whether alcohol consumption may have been a factor in the incident. Further details will be communicated once investigations are completed.
