Davido has spent years building one of Afrobeats’ most successful careers, but the Nigerian superstar is already thinking about how it should eventually end.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, the singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, revealed that his biggest fear is failing to recognise the right time to walk away from music.

For Davido, the concern is not simply about losing popularity. It is about protecting the reputation and legacy he has worked hard to build.

The Afrobeats star said he finds it difficult to watch once-dominant celebrities struggle when the attention, success and public praise begin to disappear. He believes the emotional pressure of moving from the top of an industry to a quieter life is rarely discussed.

Davido added that he would like to create a therapy centre for former stars and highly successful public figures who find it difficult to adjust after leaving the spotlight.

He used football icon Cristiano Ronaldo as an example of how quickly public opinion can turn. Despite Ronaldo’s major achievements, including multiple Champions League victories and a long list of individual honours, Davido said the Portuguese star still faced heavy criticism following his World Cup exit.

That experience appears to have shaped how Davido thinks about his own future. He said he prays for God to help him identify the right moment to stop, rather than continuing until his career begins to damage the legacy he has created.

The comments offer a rare look at the anxiety behind fame. For an artist who has helped push Nigerian music onto the global stage, success is not only about reaching the top. It is also about knowing when to leave with the story still intact.

Davido’s reflections show that even Africa’s biggest music stars are thinking seriously about life after applause, and about how to step away without losing the meaning of everything they achieved.
