Chidimma Adetshina’s legal battle over her status in South Africa will continue after a Cape Town court postponed proceedings concerning her possible detention and deportation.
The Cape Town Regional Court adjourned the matter on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, while a separate High Court challenge concerning her citizenship or legal status remains pending. Reporting by The South African said the Regional Court matter is now expected to return on 27 February 2027.
The update has renewed public interest in Adetshina’s nationality, family background and pageant career. It has also created confusion because the dispute involves two related, but legally distinct, questions.
Current position: No final court ruling has settled Chidimma Adetshina’s citizenship status or ordered her deportation. The latest development was a postponement, not a final judgment. Allegations of identity fraud concern her mother and must not be presented as proven misconduct by Adetshina.
Who is Chidimma Adetshina?
Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina is a model, beauty-pageant titleholder and law student who was born and raised in South Africa. She became widely known as a contestant in Miss South Africa 2024 before withdrawing during a public dispute over her citizenship.
She later entered and won Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. Representing Nigeria at Miss Universe 2024, she finished as first runner-up and received the Miss Universe Africa and Oceania title.
Her pageant achievements made her an internationally recognised figure, but the continuing South African legal proceedings have returned attention to the unresolved question of her status in the country of her birth.
Chidimma Adetshina quick facts
Adetshina’s exact date of birth is widely reported online, but the primary pageant records reviewed for this article confirmed her age rather than displaying a full birth date. XTRAfrica therefore identifies her as 25 without treating an unsourced date as an established fact.
