Gitega, the political capital of Burundi, has embraced the powerful slogan "A Nation on the Move," symbolizing the country's determination to overcome historical challenges and drive forward. At the center of this national transformation is President Évariste Ndayishimiye, whose leadership is paving the way toward a new, prosperous Burundi by the years 2040 and 2060.

Vision 2040–2060: Building the Future

Burundi Vision 2040–2060 sets a long-term strategy to elevate the country into an emerging and developed economy. This roadmap focuses on several core pillars:

Key Strategic Axes:

  • Economic Development: Diversify the economy and attract investment to fight poverty.

  • Governance & Institutions: Promote transparency and strengthen the rule of law.

  • Infrastructure & Environment: Expand roads, energy, and digital systems while preserving natural resources.

  • Human Development: Improve education and healthcare access.

Transformation Challenges

  • Political Stability: Key to attracting sustained investments.

  • Resource Management: Efficiently use Burundi’s natural wealth.

  • Education & Training: Develop human capital aligned with evolving market needs.

A Reflective Roadmap in Literature

To fully grasp this vision, Dr. Benjamin Ndagijimana has authored a powerful book titled:

"A Nation on the March – 60 Years of Traps Thwarted: Ndayishimiye and the New Chapter of Burundi."

Co-authors include Hon. Dr. Janvière Ndirahisha, Prof. Désiré Manirakiza, Mr. Gabriel Rufyiri, Dr. Alain Ndikumana, and Prof. Pacifique Manirakiza.

This essay is a bold reflection on Burundi’s historical resilience and future direction. It blends facts, insights, and a call to responsibility, meant to inspire, educate, and awaken national unity and ambition.

"This is not just a book. It’s a sincere, hopeful offering to those who believe in Burundi’s potential," said Dr. Ndagijimana.

Round Table for Development
