The recruitment notice, reference OBR-26/27-04, was signed in Bujumbura on September 1, 2026.

Applications must reach OBR no later than September 11, 2026 at 17:00.

The opportunity is aimed at experienced legal professionals with a university degree in law and substantial experience handling court cases.

According to the official OBR recruitment announcement, successful candidates will work within OBR's Direction Juridique et Gestion du Contentieux.

What Will the Judicial Litigation Officers Do?

The recruited officers will support OBR in legal disputes involving taxation, customs, employment and other matters handled before courts and tribunals.

Their responsibilities include:

  • Handling judicial appeals and litigation involving OBR.

  • Gathering evidence and preparing files for court proceedings.

  • Representing Burundi and/or OBR before competent courts and tribunals.

  • Following ongoing customs, tax, employment and other legal cases.

  • Preparing legal submissions and other documents needed for litigation.

  • Monitoring court decisions and their implementation.

  • Preparing reports on pending and completed cases.

  • Supporting the institution in the management of legal disputes.

Applicants should therefore have strong practical knowledge of litigation rather than only an academic background in law.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must hold a Licence or Bachelor's degree in Law.

They must also have at least five years of professional experience either:

  • Working in the magistracy; or

  • Defending and handling cases before courts and tribunals.

Candidates are also expected to have strong knowledge of:

  • Burundi's tax legislation.

  • Burundi's customs legislation.

  • Judicial procedures.

  • Litigation and court processes.

Age Requirement

Applicants must be 50 years old or younger when their application dossier is submitted.

Candidates should therefore confirm that they meet the age requirement before preparing their application.

Other Eligibility Conditions

The OBR notice includes additional integrity and professional-background requirements.

Under the published conditions, applicants may be excluded where they have been removed or dismissed from institutions such as the magistracy, public service, defence or security services, or where relevant professional or disciplinary sanctions make them ineligible.

The notice also contains restrictions concerning certain former OBR employees who were previously dismissed or resigned under circumstances covered by OBR's recruitment conditions.

Applicants should read the full official recruitment communiqué and application form before submitting their dossier.

Nationality and Residency

The recruitment notice is open to OBR personnel and the public.

The visible eligibility section does not explicitly state that applications are restricted only to Burundian citizens.

However, candidates must provide an identity document, and the job requires detailed knowledge of Burundi's tax, customs and judicial systems.

The vacancy should therefore be considered primarily suitable for Burundian and other clearly locally eligible legal professionals.

No international relocation package, visa sponsorship or foreign-worker assistance is stated in the recruitment notice.

Documents Required

Applicants must complete the official OBR application form and prepare the required supporting documents.

The application dossier includes:

  • A motivation letter addressed to the Commissaire Général of OBR.

  • The completed and signed official application form.

  • A readable copy of the applicant's identity document.

  • A certified copy of the required law degree.

  • An official equivalence document where the academic qualification was obtained abroad and requires recognition.

  • Documents proving the required professional experience.

  • Any other supporting documents requested in the official OBR recruitment instructions.

Applicants should make sure their documents are complete before submitting the dossier because incomplete applications may not be considered.
