The ruling was delivered on Friday by Justice Emeka Nwite, who approved Okorie’s bail application despite opposition from the prosecution. The court held that there was no concrete evidence suggesting that the defendant would evade trial if released on bail.


Justice Nwite stated that the decision was taken in the interest of justice, emphasizing that bail remains a discretionary power of the court and must be exercised judicially and judiciously.


As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered that Okorie provide one surety in like sum. The surety must be a Level 13 civil servant and is required to submit an affidavit of means. The judge also directed that the surety present an official appointment letter and documentation of their most recent promotion.


Additionally, the court ordered both the defendant and her surety to submit two passport photographs to the court registrar. The registrar was also instructed to verify the residential address of the surety.


The matter was adjourned until March 23 for the commencement of trial. Pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions, Justice Nwite ordered that Okorie be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
