BIRMINGHAM, England — August 21, 2026 — Democratic Republic of the Congo international Aaron Wan-Bissaka has joined Aston Villa from West Ham United on a season-long loan.

Aston Villa officially announced the signing on Friday as the club continued preparations for the 2026–27 Premier League season.

The 28-year-old right-back returns to England’s top division after West Ham’s relegation at the end of the previous campaign. He becomes Aston Villa’s sixth signing of the summer.

Loan Includes Reported Purchase Clause

beIN Sports reported that the season-long arrangement contains a conditional obligation for Aston Villa to purchase Wan-Bissaka for approximately £18 million in 2027.

Aston Villa confirmed the loan move in its official announcement but did not publish the financial terms of the agreement.

Wan-Bissaka made 65 appearances for West Ham after joining the London club from Manchester United in 2024. He was named West Ham’s Player of the Year following his first season with the club.

During the 2025–26 Premier League campaign, he recorded 40 interceptions and won 23 of his 33 attempted tackles, according to figures published by beIN Sports.

Leopard Returns to the Premier League

Wan-Bissaka represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo in all four of the Leopards’ matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His move to Aston Villa keeps the Congolese defender in the Premier League ahead of the new domestic season and upcoming international fixtures.
