Tshisekedi: One FARDC Soldier at the Front Line Earns About $500

Previously, FARDC were earning just $100 monthly, but the government has increased their salaries.

Congolese soldiers fighting on the front lines now receive around $500 per month, according to Félix Tshisekedi, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He shared this information in an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro.

Previously, soldiers were earning just $100 monthly, but the government has increased their salaries. President Tshisekedi emphasized that he is making efforts to strengthen the country's security system.

Tshisekedi pointed out that a major issue is the army’s lack of structure. "Our army is not uniform; it is made up of different groups that were merged together over time. It is an unorganized mix of militias and armed factions. We need to turn it into a single, well-structured force with the same mindset," he admitted.

To bring peace and security, he believes that reforms are necessary. As part of this effort, he has renegotiated some agreements with Chinese companies that exploit the country’s natural resources. He also revealed that the army currently consists of about 100,000 soldiers.
