During the SADC-EAC joint summit on Saturday, February 8, Kenyan President William Ruto emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire.

Without directly mentioning Rwanda, he stated that halting hostilities is essential to creating the right conditions for constructive dialogue and achieving a lasting peace agreement.

"We call on all parties to respect the ceasefire, especially the M23 rebels to stop advancing and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to cease all retaliation measures," said Ruto, who is currently the Chair of the East African Community (EAC).

The summit discussions are set to conclude the same day, following the resolutions established during the ministerial meeting held the day before.
