The Congolese Army, FARDC, has accused the M23-RDF rebels of stealing food and animals from the people in Alimbongo, a village in Lubero, North Kivu, Eastern DRC.

On Monday, December 23, 2024, the FARDC denied rumors that they had taken anything from the villagers. They stated that Alimbongo is already under M23 control, backed by the Rwandan army (RDF).

Lieutenant Colonel Mak Hazukay, the army spokesperson, said, "FARDC is not in Alimbongo. It is the attackers who are taking things from farms left behind by peaceful citizens."

For days, messages on social media have reported the theft of crops and livestock in Alimbongo.

To clarify, Alimbongo, part of the Bamate chiefdom, has been controlled by M23-RDF rebels since the evening of December 16, 2024.
