Luanda Peace Talks at Risk, Warns Thérèse Kayikwamba

Ibiganiro bya Luanda biri mu kaga’ - Thérèse Kayikwamba

The DR Congo's Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed concerns to the BBC that recent violence attack by the Rwanda defence force in Walikale, North Kivu Province, could jeopardize ongoing peace negotiations under the Luanda peace process.

Thérèse Kayikwamba, speaking from the BBC headquarters in London, where she is currently visiting, mentioned that she has reached out to the nation set to assume leadership of the UN Security Council next month, urging them to address what she describes as Rwanda’s aggression toward DR Congo.

Leading DR Congo’s delegation to the Luanda peace talks in Angola, where representatives from Rwanda will also participate, Kayikwamba voiced doubts about a lasting resolution, given the recent hostilities in Walikale.

On Wednesday, military intelligence leaders and other experts from both nations are set to convene to discuss steps toward peace under Angola’s mediation. This will be followed by a meeting of foreign affairs officials planned for mid-November, with the aim of finalizing a peace agreement to be signed and implemented by both countries' leaders.
