Journalist Patrick Adonis Numbi

Patrick Adonis Numbi, a journalist, was killed during the night between Tuesday, January 7, and Wednesday, January 8, 2025. His body was found early Wednesday morning, around 1 a.m., by patrol officers in Matshipisha, a neighborhood in Gécamines, Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga Province, in the southeastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Reports say Patrick Adonis was attacked while returning home from Pamoja Canal Television, where he worked as the General Director. His body showed machete wounds, suggesting he was assaulted by unknown attackers.

The city of Lubumbashi has faced serious security problems in recent months. The lack of enough police officers and the necessary resources to support their mobility has worsened the situation. These challenges have increased urban crime and insecurity, especially on major roads.

Many areas around Lubumbashi remain hard to access due to poor road networks, leaving neighborhoods isolated and adding to the security issues.
