Madina MP Xavier Sosu slams NPP for poor governance
Madina MP, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has strongly criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for poor governance, accusing them of damaging Ghana's democracy and institutions.
Speaking at the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) final rally on December 5, ahead of the December 7 elections, Sosu claimed the Akufo-Addo administration has allowed lawlessness to thrive.
He highlighted illegal mining as a key example, pointing to its harm to Ghana’s forests and water sources. Sosu urged Ghanaians to vote for the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, to "defend democracy." He rallied Madina voters, saying:
“Under the current administration, the rule of law is at an all-time low. Every institution of state has been compromised. On 7th December, every Ghanaian has an opportunity to defend our democracy once again.”
Sosu called the election a crucial moment for Ghana, appealing especially to young voters:
“If you are a young person in this country, if you believe in democracy, if you believe in independent institutions of state, then the only man with a track record to reset our institutions and democracy is John Dramani Mahama.”
In 2020, Mahama won Madina with 59,211 votes (55.36%) against Akufo-Addo’s 46,943 (43.89%). Sosu himself secured 62,127 votes (56.58%) in the parliamentary race. This year, he faces NPP’s Robert Lamptey. Sosu hopes to repeat his success, calling for 120,000 votes for Mahama in Madina.
