The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) took control of the village of Matembe on Wednesday, December 11.
According to Lieutenant Reagen Mbuyi, spokesman for the Northern Front of the FARDC, the loyalist army also dislodged the rebels from the villages of Katwa, Kimaka, and Luofu in the south of Lubero.
“The army activated its defense system on the second day of the rebel attacks on December 1,” he said.
The FARDC has been fighting Rwandan M23 terrorists in fierce fighting south of Lubero for several days. This Wednesday morning, the village of Kaseghe, 60 kilometers from Lubero-centre, was the scene of these violent clashes. Kaseghe is considered a strategic lock for the M23 rebels before reaching the rural commune of Kirumba, 25 kilometers further, still under their occupation.
