Judith Suminwa Tuluka who is serving as prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 12 June 2024
Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka has directed the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals Constant Mutamba, and the Minister of Human Rights Chantal Chambu Mwavita, to diligently support the Democratic Republic of Congo’s role in the United Nations Human Rights Council for the next three years. [actualite]
This directive was given during the seventeenth Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the African Union City, chaired by Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi.
Recently, the DRC was voted into the Human Rights Council and has outlined its priorities for the 2025-2027 term, which include reducing violence against women and girls, advancing the right to development, enhancing civilian protection through community policing and an accountable military, promoting transitional justice, and bolstering civic space to protect journalists and human rights activists.
The DRC joined the Council following a robust election result on October 9, 2024, where it received 172 of 190 votes at the United Nations General Assembly. Along with the DRC, several other nations were elected to serve during the same period, allowing them to actively engage in the global effort to promote and safeguard human rights.
