DRC Gov’t Pledges Justice for Murder of Two Chinese in Mwene-Ditu

Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DRC, YAMBA Kazadi Gracia

A police officer shot two Chinese citizens on January 1, 2025, in Mwene-Ditu, Lomami Province, and they died on the spot. He also seriously injured another Chinese citizen.

In response, the Congolese government, through the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Francophonie, Gracia Yamba Kazadi, reassures that the author of this crime will be arrested and severely punished.

According to a dispatch from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcing it, a series of measures were taken during an emergency security meeting organized in Kinshasa.

"All arrangements have been made by the national police to find the murderer of two Chinese subjects in Mwene-Ditu. The provincial security council is currently meeting to ensure that exemplary sanctions are taken. This is an assurance that we are giving even to the Chinese side to understand that this gentleman will be arrested and sanctioned in accordance with the law," declared Jean Rigobert Tshimanga Musungayi, secretary general at the Ministry of the Interior, Security, and Customary Affairs.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the condolences of the Congolese government to the Chinese ambassador to the DRC, reassuring him that it would remain "this frank partner and protector of the rights of its nationals who come to work" on Congolese soil.

Let us recall that two Chinese subjects, agents of the CREC 6 company stationed in Mwene-Ditu for the modernization of 4 kilometers of the national road 1, were killed on Wednesday, January 1st, by a policeman. The cause of the crime is not yet known. But witnesses on the spot speak of a dispute over beef killed during the end-of-year festivities.
