General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, has admitted that Eddie Mutwe — the head of security for opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) — is currently in custody.
Using his X account (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi posted controversial statements implying that Mutwe is being held and mocked his appearance and condition during detention. “He is in my basement,” Muhoozi wrote, adding, “If you see Eddie’s head now, he looks like an egg. Totally clean.”
This came after the National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, announced that Mutwe had been taken by armed men on Sunday from Mbalwa in Mukono District. Since then, his location had been unknown until Muhoozi’s social media remarks.
Muhoozi, in a series of posts, made disturbing comments about Mutwe’s treatment. He claimed Mutwe cried and urinated, had his beard shaved off, and now salutes a picture of President Museveni every morning. “The boys have tuned him well,” he wrote.

Although no official announcement has been made by the police, UPDF, or government authorities, Muhoozi’s posts have been seen by many as a clear confirmation that Mutwe is being held by state security.
Bobi Wine responded to the revelations with a short but strong message: “Time will tell.”
NUP leaders are demanding that Mutwe be brought to court if he is under legal arrest. “It’s now obvious that our colleague is being held. The government must follow the law,” one official said.
Eddie Mutwe has been a longtime bodyguard for Bobi Wine and a known figure in the People Power movement. He has been arrested several times before but supporters are concerned about the legality and conditions of his current detention.
