Victoria Kjær Theilvig from Denmark won the Miss Universe crown during the competition held in Mexico City, becoming the first Dane to achieve this title.

Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria was named the first runner-up. She previously faced criticism over allegations of attempting to compete as Miss South Africa, which were dismissed. She later represented Nigeria and earned her place in the competition.

Theilvig, 21, is a dancer, entrepreneur, and legal professional. She was crowned by Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua, the outgoing Miss Universe.

The event began with 127 participants, narrowed to 30, then 12, and finally the top five contestants who answered questions on leadership and social issues before the winner was selected.

Maria Fernanda Beltran from Mexico was the second runner-up, followed by Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand and Ileana Marquez Pedroza from Venezuela. Pedroza, 28, was the first contestant over 28 and a mother to compete, following recent rule changes.
