A soldier from the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) is under arrest in Majok-Yithiou, a town near the Sudan border, after being accused of raping a 13-year-old girl on December 26, the day after Christmas. The town's mayor, George Garang Bak, shared this information on Friday.

According to Mayor Bak, the incident happened while the girl’s parents were not at home. He explained, “An SSPDF soldier raped a 13-year-old girl, but we are not revealing names yet to help keep the situation calm.”

The mayor said the incident upset many people because some soldiers stationed in border areas act unprofessionally. He urged the girl’s parents to remain patient as the authorities handle the case. Bak emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and that soldiers are expected to protect the public.

“This is something the court will address seriously, and the soldier will face the consequences of his actions,” Bak said. He promised to ensure the soldier is held accountable, setting an example for other officers in the force.

The girl is receiving treatment at Aweil hospital, and court proceedings will follow soon.
