Manchester City could face a 100-point deduction after being accused of breaking financial rules 115 times by the Premier League. Leagues worldwide use rules like Financial Fair Play (FFP) or Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to stop clubs from overspending to win trophies.
In February 2023, the Premier League announced it was investigating Manchester City for breaking these financial rules over 100 times.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire warned that Manchester City might lose this case, leading to punishments. He said the club could face penalties like Juventus did in May 2023, when they lost 10 points for breaking financial rules.
Because Manchester City’s alleged rule-breaking happened over many years (2009–2018), they might lose up to 100 points. Some of the club’s board members, including Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Martin Edelman, and Simon Pearce, may also have to resign.
The final decision on this case is expected by March 2025, as manager Pep Guardiola recently told reporters.
Manchester City is currently struggling in fifth place in the Premier League but recently beat Newcastle United 4-0 on today, February 15.
