Legendary Italian coach Fabio Capello has explained how Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti played a crucial role in helping Kylian Mbappe overcome his early struggles and regain his goal-scoring form.
Mbappe, a World Cup-winning French forward, had a tough start after joining Madrid last summer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Expectations were high after his much-anticipated transfer, but he struggled to make an immediate impact.
At first, the 26-year-old striker went three consecutive La Liga games without scoring. His Champions League form wasn’t much better, managing only one goal in Madrid’s first five matches.
However, things have since changed drastically. Mbappe has rediscovered his best form, scoring six goals in his last four Champions League games and eight goals in his last nine La Liga matches.
Capello Praises Ancelotti’s Influence on Mbappe
Speaking to the press, Fabio Capello credited Ancelotti for his role in helping the French star adapt to Madrid.
“He has helped Kylian Mbappe a lot and it is his merit. The most important thing about the coach is to understand what you have and know where you want to go. If he doesn’t understand it, it’s a failure, and Ancelotti understands him [Mbappe] perfectly.”
Capello also defended Mbappe against early criticism, suggesting that people were too quick to judge him.
“He’s a great player. It has taken three months to understand what Madrid is. Many people have criticized him, but they have not understood anything and have said nonsense. Now you can see that he is an extraordinary player and of a very high level.”
So far this season, Mbappe has scored 27 goals and provided four assists in 39 matches across all competitions.
