As a formation, BRICS has an important role in the world. It has the potential to drive significant change in the global economy and international relations. The historic expansion of BRICS creates further opportunities to foster robust trade and developmentcooperation. The expanded BRICS group now covers 43 percent of the world's population. The group together accounts for 27 percent of global GDP and a fifth of world exports. The opportunities for cooperation and economic progress are immense. The BRICS Business Council has a crucial role in expanding trade between BRICS countries. As governments, we are committed to support the work of business. We look forward to the report of the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to the BRICS Summit on the strengthening of correspondent banking networks between BRICS countries and enabling settlements in local currencies. As the global economy undergoes far-reaching technological change, BRICS countries must create a collaborative environment for the advancement of digital technology. E-commerce in particular has great potential to enhancemarket access and economic growth. We support the call for international rules and standards on issues such as cross-border taxation and data privacy. South Africa is ready to play its part in realising the economic potential of BRICS. In the midst of an improved economic outlook for South Africa, growth forecasts for the next two years have been revised upwards. Our newly-elected Government of National Unity has prioritised structural economic reform, massiveinvestment in infrastructure and improving the business operating environment. South Africa has a diverse economic base with developed industries in areas such as manufacturing and services. We have sophisticated financial services, world class infrastructure and abundant natural resources. We call on fellow BRICS countries to participate in thegrowth of South Africa and indeed the rest of the African continent. The African Continental Free Trade Area is unlockingmassive opportunities for trade, investment and industrial growth. The African continent is looking for partnerships that willunlock the dynamism and potential of its 1.3 billionpeople. Africa is home to a population that is young, digitally connected and increasingly urbanised. Investment in skills development is growing a workforce that will make the African continent an engine of production and growth well into the future. The success of the African Continental Free Trade Area requires a substantial investment in infrastructure. We therefore call on fellow BRICS countries to partner with us to build the roads, ports for imports and exports, rail, energy and telecommunications networks that will enable Africa to industrialise and trade with other countries across the world. To ensure that the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area are spread across African societies, we need to ensure that small and medium-sized enterprises and women-owned businesses receive focused supportand financing. Kylian Mbappé Scores in Debut, Leading Real Madrid to Historic Super Cup Victory. Prince Jean Aug 14, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Kylian Mbappe Nets Impressive Goal in Real Madrid Debut at 2024 UEFA Super Cup. Image:gettyimages Kylian Mbappé's debut goal for Real Madrid helped secure a historic sixth UEFA Super Cup victory, as they defeated Atalanta 2-0 in Warsaw on Wednesday. Mbappé, who recently transitioned from Paris Saint-Germain to his long-coveted dream club Real Madrid, made his mark by scoring in the 68th minute, solidifying the win for the Champions League winners. The match opened with Federico Valverde scoring the first goal in the 59th minute, capitalizing on a tense first half where Atalanta, the Europa League champions, held strong. Valverde's goal came from close range after a well-coordinated play, setting the stage for Madrid's dominance in the second half. The Spanish giants increased pressure and opportunities, with Jude Bellingham playing a pivotal role. The England international adapted to a midfield trio position, differing from his usual advanced role, showcasing his versatility and assisting in creating critical plays. Bellingham's influence was evident as he set up Mbappé’s decisive goal, which came after a dynamic movement and a precise pass from Vinicius Junior to Valverde, which Atalanta's defense struggled to contain. Despite several more attempts by Madrid, including a notable save against Vinicius, it was Mbappé’s strike that ultimately sealed the victory. This win not only adds another Super Cup to Madrid's trophy cabinet but also places Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid’s coach, alongside Miguel Munoz with a record 14 titles. Ancelotti's strategic foresight in integrating Mbappé into a dynamic forward line, alongside Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, was on full display, hinting at potent formations for the upcoming season. Madrid’s fans celebrated Mbappé’s performance with a standing ovation when he was substituted in the 83rd minute, anticipating the impact he will continue to have in his inaugural season with the club. Banky W, who initially signed Wizkid to his record label EME before Wizkid established his own StarBoy Entertainment, described Wizkid's early days in the music industry. Banky referred to Wizkid as a "studio rat," explaining that, for a long period, Wizkid couldn't afford studio time. He recounted how Wizkid would spend entire days at any studio that would let him stay, hoping the producer might eventually give him 15 to 30 minutes to record since he couldn’t pay for his own sessions. Banky further explained that the name "WIZ" came from Wizkid’s ability to quickly create music. He noted that Wizkid could simply listen to a beat, and almost instantly, the song would be ready. "He doesn’t need to write it, he’s a genius," Banky said. WATCH VIDEO In Banky's words: “Wizkid for a long time in his life was not fortunate enough to afford or pay for studio time... he was a studio rat as he will go to any studio where they will let him hang out... he would hang out all day... just wait, hope and pray for the end of the day for the engineers and producers to just take pity on him... He did not have time to think about what to write at the moment, so that became his process." Banky praised Wizkid's remarkable songwriting speed, describing how Wizkid could listen to music, start freestyling a melody, and quickly create a song that the world would love. This spontaneous, genius-level creativity was what inspired the name "Wiz." Joel Embiid Secures 3-Year, $193 Million Contract Extension with the Philadelphia 76ers Prince Jean Sep 21, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Joel Embiid Signs 3-Year, $193 Million Extension with 76ers, Aims for First NBA Title. Credit:gettyimages Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid, the reigning NBA MVP and an Olympic gold medalist, has signed a 3-year, $193 million contract extension, securing his future with the team through the end of the decade. The deal includes a player option for the 2028-29 season, according to sources. Embiid, 30, who has expressed his desire to stay with the franchise for the rest of his career, shared the news on Instagram with a photo of him signing the contract alongside 76ers owner Josh Harris. In his post, Embiid reaffirmed his commitment to Philadelphia: “Philadelphia is home. I want to be here the rest of my career. You guys deserve a championship, and I believe we’re just getting started.” Already a seven-time NBA All-Star, Embiid remains in the second year of a $196 million extension he signed in 2021. This new deal makes him the third key player to secure a major contract with the 76ers this offseason. Paul George, lured from the Los Angeles Clippers, signed a four-year, $212 million contract, while Tyrese Maxey, the NBA’s Most Improved Player, agreed to a five-year, $204 million extension. The franchise is counting on this new "Big Three" to compete for an NBA title, a feat the Sixers haven't achieved since 1983. Despite his impressive accolades—including five All-NBA Team honors, three All-Defensive Team selections, and two NBA scoring titles—Embiid has yet to lead the 76ers past the second round of the playoffs. He’s also struggled with injuries throughout his career, never playing more than 68 games in a season. Last season, he averaged 34.7 points but played in only 39 games. Team owner Josh Harris lauded Embiid’s legacy, calling him “one of the greatest Sixers of all time” and essential to the franchise’s championship aspirations. Harris added, “Joel is an elite two-way player with a rare combination of size, strength, and athleticism. We are ecstatic that this extension keeps him and his family in Philadelphia for years to come.” Drafted third overall by the 76ers in 2014, Embiid’s career has been marked by significant achievements. In 433 games, all of which he started, Embiid has averaged 27.9 points on 50.4% shooting, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 blocked shots per game. He ranks first in franchise history in scoring average (27.9 PPG) and holds top-five spots in blocked shots, triple-doubles, and total points scored. Off the court, Embiid’s journey is equally remarkable. Born in Cameroon, he began playing basketball as a teenager after a friend pointed out that his 7-foot frame would be better suited for basketball than soccer. Embiid was scouted at a basketball camp in Yaoundé by fellow Cameroonian and NBA veteran Luc Mbah a Moute, who helped him move to the U.S. to pursue his career. Despite missing his first two NBA seasons due to injuries, Embiid has risen to become one of the most dominant big men in the league. With a new contract in hand and a determined mindset, Embiid remains focused on delivering a long-awaited NBA title to Philadelphia. As he stated, "There is a lot more work to do. We’re just getting started."
