ACCRA, Ghana — Updated 9 October 2026. University of Ghana students face disrupted registration for the 2026/2027 academic year as administrators continue industrial action. JoyNews reported on 8 October that registration had been put on hold, citing a management notice addressed to Level 100 and continuing students.
The practical priority is to check the latest university instructions before assuming an account is ready, a payment has cleared or a reporting date has changed.
Can students complete University of Ghana registration now? Registration was reported disrupted by the GAUA strike on 8 October. The published undergraduate calendar lists 5 October to 6 November, but scheduled dates do not guarantee portal access. Check your programme’s instructions, payment record and university updates before treating registration as complete.
Which dates should students use?
The university’s published undergraduate calendar sets out the following first-semester schedule.
These are the published dates, not confirmation that all registration services are operating normally. The calendar also warns that Law and several health-related schools may follow different schedules. Students in those schools should use their school’s instructions.
Professor Gordon Awandare, the university’s pro-vice-chancellor, warned on 8 October that a prolonged strike could force a reorganisation of the academic year. His warning, reported by MyJoyOnline, was conditional. It should not be read as an announcement that every reporting date has already been postponed.
Prepare your ID, university email and payment records
The university’s online registration guidance identifies a student number, five-digit PIN and activated UG email account as registration essentials.
Fresh students should consult their admission letters for their credentials. Continuing students should use their existing accounts. Keep the admission letter, fee receipt and any previous registration confirmation together so a problem can be explained clearly.

That guidance says students must meet the required minimum fee before registration. Check the applicable year and programme before paying: older registration pages contain historical fee percentages that should not automatically be applied to 2026/2027.
A receipt and a completed registration record answer different questions. If your payment does not appear in your account, ask the university to reconcile it rather than assuming another payment is necessary.
Follow the instructions for your college
UG’s freshmen registration page describes different routes for different colleges. It directs Basic and Applied Sciences and Health Sciences students through MIS Web, while Humanities and Education instructions include the STS portal.
The page contains older academic-year information. Use it to understand the distinction between systems, then follow current instructions for your programme and level.
For MIS Web, published guidance describes selecting registration, submitting the relevant qualification and accepting the registration before printing proof. Do not select courses merely because an older guide lists them. Check the courses required for your current programme.

Once you complete the applicable process, save the confirmation. Signing into a portal alone does not demonstrate that your registration was accepted.
If the portal fails, document the problem
As practical preparation, save the error message, time of the attempt and the step at which registration stopped. Include your student number and programme when asking for assistance, but keep your PIN and password private.
The official STS services page displays student ID/PIN recovery and complaint options. Their presence does not guarantee immediate processing during industrial action.
UG’s registration-help page lists studentsaccounts@ug.edu.gh and studentsrecords@ug.edu.gh, and asks students to include their student number.
Because this is an older university page, confirm current arrangements with your college if you receive no response.Keep a copy of correspondence. An unanswered request should not be treated as approval of a deadline extension or an alternative registration route.

Check accommodation separately
Academic registration and residential registration are separate processes in UG’s published guidance. A course-registration confirmation is not a room-allocation letter.
Before travelling, check whether accommodation has been allocated, whether the relevant payment is recorded and whether you have residential confirmation. Ask the hall or hostel about unresolved arrangements rather than relying on a general reopening message.
Fresh international students should also consult the International Programmes Office’s 2026/2027 information. It lists an admission letter, proof of fee payment or wire-transfer details, and a passport photograph for registration at the office. Confirm arrival arrangements directly if disruption affects your plans.
What should students watch for next?
Look for a dated university notice addressing registration availability, reporting arrangements and any revised deadline. Check your UG email and programme communications before making a decision based on a forwarded screenshot.
For now, organise your documents, record unsuccessful attempts and verify accommodation. A strike-related interruption does not itself establish that admission has been cancelled, that every deadline has moved or that an unofficial workaround is authorised.
