Tanzania and the United States are deepening their security partnership through Exercise Justified Accord 2026, a multinational military drill running from February 23 to March 13, 2026, with Tanzanian and US forces training together to improve readiness, crisis response and interoperability. The exercise is being held across Djibouti, Kenya and Tanzania, with about 1,500 personnel involved, according to US Africa Command and the US Army.

In Tanzania, the US side is being represented in part by the Nebraska National Guard, which is working alongside the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) on areas including medical readiness, cybersecurity and emergency response, the Daily News reported. US military reporting on Justified Accord 2026 also says the exercise is designed to build readiness, deepen partnerships and strengthen regional security.

This year’s activities also carry added significance because they build on the State Partnership Program linking Nebraska and Tanzania. The Nebraska National Guard said in 2025 that the partnership had been established in 2024, describing it as one of the newer pairings in the National Guard Bureau’s global network. US Africa Command likewise highlighted the agreement last year as part of growing defence cooperation between Washington and Dar es Salaam.

The broader Justified Accord framework is a major East African security platform led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa under U.S. Africa Command, aimed at improving coordination among partner militaries in areas such as field medicine, operational readiness and crisis response. Official US military releases say the 2026 exercise leans heavily on the State Partnership Program to strengthen long-term military relationships in the region.

According to the reports, the US Embassy in Dar es Salaam also announced support for Tanzania’s disaster-response capacity through the presentation of nine emergency shelters to the Tanzania Fire and Rescue Service. That specific donation detail was reported in the main source and was not independently confirmed in the additional official material reviewed here.

Taken together, the joint exercise and the Nebraska-Tanzania partnership point to a broader push to strengthen defence cooperation, emergency preparedness and regional stability at a time when East African security coordination remains a key part of US military engagement on the continent.
