ACCRA, Ghana | 2 October 2026:The Ghana Football Association says it will announce new coaching arrangements for the Black Stars after agreeing to end Carlos Queiroz's contract on 1 October. Its departure statement names neither a caretaker nor a permanent successor, leaving the team's next leadership appointment outstanding.
The change comes after two defeats at the start of Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. A separate GFA announcement has also removed the Morocco friendly from the team's programme, adding a change of schedule to the coaching transition.
Who will coach Ghana after Carlos Queiroz? The GFA has not named a replacement in its departure statement. It says technical arrangements will follow. Ghana's scheduled Morocco friendly has also been cancelled, while Reuters reports that the Black Stars face Somalia twice in November's AFCON qualifiers.
No caretaker or permanent successor announced
The GFA thanked Queiroz and his technical staff for their contribution, saying further details would cover the team's coaching arrangements and leadership. It did not announce an appointment deadline.
Graphic Online's report also states that the association had not indicated whether an interim coach would be appointed or when a permanent replacement would be named.
There is a distinction between confirming the head coach's departure and setting out the wider staffing changes. The GFA's message does not identify which assistants will remain, which roles will change or who will take charge of the next training camp.
For now, the announced change is the mutual termination of Queiroz's agreement, not the installation of a new technical team.
Morocco friendly is no longer on the programme
The GFA's cancellation notice says the decision followed consultations between the Ghanaian and Moroccan associations. It apologised to supporters, stakeholders and media partners for the inconvenience.

Morocco friendly is no longer on the programme
The GFA's cancellation notice says the decision followed consultations between the Ghanaian and Moroccan associations. It apologised to supporters, stakeholders and media partners for the inconvenience.
The original fixture announcement had scheduled the match for Sunday, 4 October, at the Grand Stade de Tanger. That arrangement has now been cancelled.
No replacement opponent, new match date or revised camp programme was included in the cancellation notice. Instead, the association said it would communicate new preparations for the AFCON qualifiers.
The notice does not attribute the cancellation to Queiroz's departure or give a specific reason beyond consultations between the two federations.
Somalia double-header shapes the next assignment
Ghana's next competitive task is a pair of qualifiers against Somalia in November, according to Reuters' report carried by CNA.
The Black Stars lost their opening matches 2-0 away to Ivory Coast and 4-2 at home to The Gambia. Those results left Ghana without a point from two games, making the next window important for any incoming coach.

The GFA's qualifying calendar places matchdays three and four between 9 and 17 November 2026. The final two rounds are scheduled for 22-30 March 2027.
Ghana are seeking one of Group C's two qualifying places after missing the previous tournament in Morocco. The next finals will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
That calendar gives the coaching transition a competitive deadline, although the GFA has not attached a specific appointment date to its departure announcement.
Queiroz points to results and working conditions
In his own statement published by the GFA, Queiroz confirmed that both sides had agreed to end their relationship.
He said "the necessary conditions were not fully established" and acknowledged that recent performances contributed to the decision. He did not identify those conditions or set out specific complaints about funding, staffing or administration.
Queiroz thanked the association, his technical staff and the players, while asking supporters to continue backing the squad.
"Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them," he said.

His message combined an explanation for leaving with confidence in the players' potential. It did not name a preferred successor or outline who should run the team in his absence.
The GFA's April introduction of Queiroz described his initial agreement as a four-month contract covering the World Cup. He succeeded Otto Addo, whose earlier appointment formed part of Ghana's previous coaching cycle.
Ghana reached the World Cup's round of 32 before losing to Colombia. The federation subsequently announced a new mandate on 2 September, explaining that his previous assignment had ended after the tournament.
That decision, covered in XTRAfrica's report on Queiroz's reappointment, brought him back for the next international window. The new agreement was therefore distinct from the original World Cup assignment.
His World Cup squad included captain Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semenyo. Those selections belong to the previous campaign; the next coach's choices for November have yet to be set out in the transition announcements.
The remaining decisions are the identity and mandate of the next head coach, the supporting staff and the revised preparation programme. With the Morocco match cancelled, the next announced qualifying window is November's Somalia double-header.
