Libreville is positioning itself as a key aeronautical hub in Central Africa. With a strong domestic market and strategic geography, Gabon has launched Fly Gabon, its new national airline. Officially inaugurated on August 29, 2024, by President Brice Clotaire OLIGUI NGUEMA, this new carrier marks a fresh era for Gabonese aviation.
Unlike RwandAir, whose assets are 70% owned by Qatar Airways, Fly Gabon is 100% owned by the Gabonese state and directly attached to the Ministry of Transport. It is managed with distinction by Minister Jean-Pierre OYIBA, ensuring full national control and sovereignty over Gabon’s air transport revival.
Infrastructure: Key Airports Supporting Fly Gabon
Main Hub:
Léon Mba International Airport (LBV), Libreville
Gabon’s primary airport and Fly Gabon’s central hub, connecting to 16 destinations via 11 international airlines.
Other Major Airports:
Franceville/Mvengué Airport (MVB) – Southeast Gabon’s main airport for domestic and regional flights.
Port-Gentil Airport (POG) – The country’s second-largest airport, handling most domestic routes.
Chibanga (TCH) and Mouila (MJL) – Regional gateways for the southwest and south.
Additional Regional Airports:
Akieni (AKE), Bitam (BMM), Gamba (GAX), Koulamoutou (KOU), Makokou (MKU), and Oyem (OYE).
Fleet and Expansion
Fly Gabon currently operates six ATR 72 aircraft, optimized for short-haul domestic flights. On July 25, 2025, Gabon received its first Airbus A320, a 126-seater that marks a turning point in the country’s aviation ambitions, nearly 20 years after the dissolution of Air Gabon.
Gabon has placed an order for five Airbus aircraft, and a new route to Johannesburg is under preparation. This takes the current fleet to seven planes, reinforcing Fly Gabon’s vision for a modern, sovereign, and fully national air network.
Governance
Chairman of the Board: Francis Lendjoungou
Managing Director: Binta Mandji Lespinas
The airline is operated by Fly Air Gabon Holding, created during the Council of Ministers on February 7, 2024. The holding company enjoys legal status and financial autonomy, but remains fully state-owned and supervised under the Ministry of Transport.
A National Flag Carrier with True Sovereignty
Unlike regional competitors, Fly Gabon is proudly and fully owned by Gabon, with no foreign capital involvement. Its management reflects national values, transparency, and ambition, steered by Minister Jean-Pierre OYIBA, who has overseen its successful development.
This national airline embodies a return of pride, promising accessible travel, job creation, and strengthened regional connectivity, all under Gabonese leadership.
