The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Israel have announced plans to continue consultations on a significant upgrade in their diplomatic relations following talks between Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

According to a joint declaration from DRC Foreign Ministry following their September 1, 2026 meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations, friendship and bilateral cooperation.

The two countries will now continue consultations toward:

Opening a resident Israeli Embassy in Kinshasa

Moving the DRC Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

The joint declaration says Kinshasa and Israel will continue diplomatic discussions to agree on the practical arrangements for implementing these decisions.

The announcement comes as Tshisekedi’s visit pushes DRC–Israel relations into a new phase, with the two governments also discussing deeper economic, political and security cooperation.

Importantly, the statement indicates that consultations and implementation arrangements are still ongoing — the embassy changes have not yet been completed.

Kinshasa and Jerusalem are moving toward significantly deeper diplomatic ties.
