The Democratic Republic of Congo’s senior athletics team is set to return to Kinshasa on Monday after winning eight medals at the second Pool Malebo Meeting in Brazzaville, according to a 7sur7 report.
The competition was held on April 11–12 at Brazzaville’s Massamba-Débat stadium and marked another edition of a cross-river athletics event linking athletes from the two Congos.
According to the report, the DRC finished with two gold medals, five silver and one bronze. Mardochée Kanyinda claimed gold in the men’s 100 metres in 10.30 seconds, while Vicky Busa won the second gold in the 400 metres. The report also said the Congolese team took silver in the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while Maria Kalanga secured bronze.
The latest showing builds on the first International Pool Malebo Meeting, staged in Kinshasa in April 2025, when organizers said the event brought together more than 250 athletes from Kinshasa and Brazzaville. Another report ahead of that 2025 meeting also described it as a competition meant to bring together clubs and athletes from both capitals.
Held at the Massamba-Débat stadium, a venue used for athletics as well as football in Brazzaville, this year’s meeting gave the DRC delegation another regional benchmark as it looks to build on individual sprint results and relay performances.
With the team expected back in Kinshasa on April 13, attention now turns to how these results can be used to strengthen preparation for future regional competitions.
