Despite this regional triumph, Cape Town International has observed a descent in its global standing, now ranked 54th after being 23rd in 2020. This shift underscores the fluctuating nature of global air travel and the constant changes in aviation standards.

Other South African airports also garnered accolades in the Skytrax survey, with Durban's King Shaka International Airport and OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg securing second and third places respectively on the African continent. Internationally, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia achieved the seventh spot in the African rankings, marking Ethiopia's rise as a significant hub for international travel and commerce.
