A group of former and current senior staff members of Moi University have found themselves in a dispute with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company over the ownership of a valuable plot of land.
The one-and-a-half-acre property, reportedly worth Sh30 million, is situated near Eldoret Airstrip, along the busy Eldoret-Iten highway, just a short distance from Eldoret City’s central business district.
On Saturday, tensions escalated when the university staff, who claim to have held the land for over 30 years, arrived to find that the property had been fenced off by a contractor hired by the water company. Outraged, they dismantled the fence, sparking a confrontation at the site.

Alice Opija, one of the university staff, asserted that they have original title deeds for the land, alleging that the water company is attempting to take ownership without any valid documentation. The contractor and his team, caught in the heated dispute, were forced to abandon their work and flee on foot.
This situation highlights an ongoing conflict over property rights, with each side maintaining that they are the legitimate owners of the plot. As the row continues, the land remains at the center of a legal and physical battle.
