Afrobeats star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has sparked controversy by accusing Nigeria’s rich of weaponizing poverty to make the poor "worship" them. The singer made the bold claim while engaging in a heated social media exchange with fellow artist Davido on Wednesday.

Wizkid, known for hits like "More Love, Less Ego," began targeting Davido on Tuesday night, resuming his online attacks the following day. In his posts, Wizkid claimed that despite Davido's wealthy background, he was more successful and wealthier than the DMW boss, who is known for his hit song "Omo Baba Olowo."

Labeling Davido as a "spoiled rich kid," Wizkid alleged that the "Unavailable" singer is "cheap" and charges less than most top-tier artists in the music industry.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Wizkid wrote:

"First off, you’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me, you can’t dress, you don’t make more money than me, you don’t even got shoes like me. You’re cheap, you pull up for less than we do! Fck off you spoiled rich child! Fck you and your dad’s money, we got ours! Every ngga around you broke! Your dumb ss lawyer flies with you everywhere dressed like Basketmouth lol, our lawyers are too busy for that sht!”*

Wizkid further criticized Davido's claim of being "001" in the Nigerian music industry, accusing him of surrounding himself with poor people to gain their admiration. He claimed this was a result of the rich exploiting poverty in the country.

"Naija is a place where the rich weaponize poverty so you carry all these broke boys in real life and get them visas so they worship you. Call yourself 001, you delusional! The only time you're 001 is at home. You're not 001 of anything but Instagram followers!"

The fiery exchange has ignited discussions across social media, with fans of both artists weighing in on the rivalry.
