Mashariki Film Festival Marks 10th Anniversary with Red Carpet Event in Kigali
Stars of African cinema light up the red carpet at the 10th Mashariki Film Festival in Kigali, celebrating a decade of achievements in the film industry.
The 10th Mashariki Film Festival concluded at Century Park Hotel in Kigali, with prominent Rwandan cinema figures gracing the red carpet. Hosted by MC Lion Imanzi, the event celebrated ten years of the festival, honoring achievements in African cinema.
Festival Director Trésor Senga thanked attendees and reflected on the festival’s journey, acknowledging the challenges faced and the growth seen over the years. He noted the festival’s roots as a vision for African filmmakers and the progress made to date.
The week-long festival included diverse film screenings at Mayaka and Marangi, workshops for aspiring filmmakers, and Masharket, an initiative connecting filmmakers with industry investors.
Attendees included figures such as Dr. Nsabii, Clapton Kibonge, and Irafasha Sandrine Reponse, who showcased traditional Rwandan attire.
The closing ceremony featured awards for achievements in film. George Kamanayo received the 'Iziwacu Film Pioneer' award. Other honorees included Benimana Ramadhan as Best Actor, Kayitesi Kayonga Yvonne as Best Actress, and Willy Ndahiro with the Lifetime Achievement Award. 'The Forest' by Soloba won Best Internet Film, while 'Kaliza wa Kalisa' was awarded Best TV Show.
KGW Solution Group Ltd hosted the event, marking a significant milestone for the Mashariki Film Festival and African cinema.
