Eddie Jordan, the former Formula 1 team owner and TV pundit, has passed away at the age of 76. His family confirmed that he died peacefully at his home in Cape Town after battling bladder and prostate cancer, which had spread to his spine and pelvis.
Jordan was a well-loved figure in motorsport, known for his energetic personality, business skills, and contributions to Formula 1. Many in the F1 community, including former drivers and team leaders, have paid tribute to him, recognizing his impact on the sport.
A Life in Racing
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Eddie Jordan started as a racing driver before moving into team ownership. In 1981, he founded his own racing team, and in 1991, he launched Jordan Grand Prix in Formula 1.
His team became famous for discovering and giving young talent a chance, including Michael Schumacher, who went on to win seven world championships. Jordan’s biggest success came in 1998 at the Belgian Grand Prix, when his team secured its first F1 win with Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher finishing first and second.

Despite financial struggles, Jordan kept pushing his small team to compete against big manufacturers. His team won four Formula 1 races before he sold it in 2006. The team later became Aston Martin F1, showing how his influence remained in the sport.
Success Beyond F1
After leaving F1, Jordan became a popular TV expert, known for his outspoken and colorful personality. He worked as a pundit for the BBC, where he entertained fans with his deep knowledge and bold opinions.
Jordan also made smart business investments, building a fortune estimated at £470 million. He invested in property, golf resorts, gaming, and even owned luxury yachts. More recently, he was part of a group that bought the London Irish Rugby Club, showing his passion for sports beyond racing.
Remembering Eddie Jordan
Jordan is survived by his wife Marie, a former Irish basketball player, and their four children. His family described him as full of energy, charm, and charisma, saying they will cherish the many happy memories he left behind.

F1 leaders, including Stefano Domenicali (F1 CEO) and Christian Horner (Red Bull team principal), called Jordan a true legend of the sport. His former driver Damon Hill described him as chaotic but brilliant, someone who changed lives and left a lasting mark on Formula 1.
Jordan’s legacy will live on in motorsport history as a man who fought against the odds, found incredible talents, and brought excitement to F1.
