Shaka Ssali will be cremated, with his ashes sent to Uganda and other African nations
Shaka Ssali, a well-known African journalist, will be cremated, and his ashes will be sent to Uganda and other African countries, following his last wishes.
Journalist Sudhir Byaruhanga, who is believed to be a distant relative of Ssali, posted the news on X (formerly Twitter). He said, “He asked for cremation and wanted his ashes taken back home and to other African countries.”
The family has confirmed they will fulfill his request. More information about the farewell services in Washington, D.C., and Uganda will be shared soon.
“We will respect his wishes. Dates for his sendoff in Washington, D.C., and Uganda will be announced,” Sudhir added in his post.
For more than 20 years, Shaka Ssali hosted a talk show that allowed African leaders, scholars, and thinkers to discuss important issues. His work helped connect Africa with the rest of the world.
He was known for his heartfelt greetings, always starting his show by saying, “I’m profoundly honored and exceedingly humbled.” He also often said, “Let’s keep the African hope alive,” a line many people remember him by.
