UPDF denies chemical weapons claims, calling them false and baseless; evidence shows operations follow strict protocols and target only rebels

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has strongly denied claims that it used chemical weapons in South Sudan. During a press meeting today, UPDF Acting Director of Defense Public Information, Col Chris Magezi, said the news being shared online is false and has no proof.

He explained that the accusations were started by supporters of Dr. Riek Machar through social media posts. These posts said that UPDF dropped chemical weapons on White Army positions in the Upper Nile and Jonglei areas.

Col Magezi showed official documents during the press briefing to prove that UPDF follows clear rules and does not have or use any chemical weapons. He said their military systems are not made to carry or launch such weapons.

The army also shared military records that show how UPDF is guided by strict rules to protect civilians. Col Magezi added that their missions are well planned and only aim at approved military targets.

He confirmed that the government of South Sudan fully supports UPDF’s operations in the country.

The rebel leaders did not respond to the UPDF’s statements. Meanwhile, UPDF troops continue their missions while following normal military procedures.
